simplify Flip, but that's for later ...)

Fix Mini scaling doesn't apply to mod adjustments.  Fixes weird "Mini+Flip"
and probably other combinations.

(This also eliminates the need for NoteFieldMode entirely, which I've wanted
to remove for a long time.)
